Mohegan Sun Installs Electric Vehicle Chargers From Legrand
SYRACUSE, NY, November 19, 2012 – The Mohegan Sun has installed two of Legrand’s Level 2 Wall-mounted Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (EV Chargers) at their Connecticut-based resort as a service to guests and patrons. As the demand for charging facilities grows, the Mohegan Sun is expected to install several more chargers.
Owned by the Mohegan Tribe, the busy Mohegan Sun draws 25,000 daily visitors to its three casinos, more than 65 dining and premium retail outlets and finest entertainment at three world-class venues. The Mohegan Sun boasts a 1,200-room luxury hotel with 100,000 square feet of premier meeting space as well as a luxurious spa.
Commenting on the installation of the EV Chargers, Michael Hamilton, Vice President of Resort Operations at the Mohegan Sun said, “We installed Legrand’s Electric Vehicle Chargers for a number of reasons. We are a customer centric organization and we wanted to ensure that guests who drive electric vehicles have access to this important service. It is also important for us to show our customers that we are an environmentally conscious organization and that we support their sustainability values. Ultimately, the market for electric vehicles is set to increase and it is important to have an electric vehicle charging system in place meet the anticipated demands of our guests.”
The EV Chargers were installed in Mohegan Sun’s underground parking garage on the B1 level, close to the entry and exit ramps used by the resort’s valet service. This also provides easy access for the transportation department, who will receive the electric vehicle from the valets and handle the responsibility of parking and charging guest’s electric vehicles.
The installation of the Level 2 Chargers was a seamless process for the Mohegan Sun. The charging stations were situated close to an electrical distribution room so a minimal amount of materials, such as conduits, fittings and wire were used. This also helped ensure that installation costs were kept as low as possible. “Mounting the charging units was straight forward and the instructions with the units were easy to comprehend and follow,” added Hamilton.
The EV Chargers were mounted in such a way that the transportation department could take advantage of their long charging cords and power up four vehicles, parked two deep, from one charging unit. In total, eight vehicles can be charged at one time without moving any vehicle after parking them in a designated parking place.
“Ease of installation and use coupled with reliability and the ability to rapidly charge electric vehicles are critical factors in deciding what Electric Vehicle Charger to select, particularly for light commercial applications,” said Kiran Laxman, product manager of electric vehicle supply equipment at Legrand/Pass & Seymour.
Mohegan Sun has several hybrid vehicles in its fleet that are used by a number of different departments throughout its extensive property. It is currently investigating purchasing electric vehicles at a later date.
