Legrand® And Lumenetix® Create Inroads In Connected Intelligent Lighting Applications
NEW YORK, NY, November 10, 2016 –Demonstrating its commitment to connectivity and intelligence in the Built Environment, Legrand North and Central America reiterated the importance of its recent partnership with Lumenetix. The two companies are working together to accelerate advanced digital lighting applications such as Human Centric Lighting (HCL). This announcement was made at the North American launch of Legrand’s ELIOT program for IoT in the Built Environment.
Commenting on the announcement, John Selldorff, Chief Executive Officer of Legrand North and Central America noted, “Advanced digital lighting capabilities are emerging, creating growth opportunities in human centric lighting. Legrand’s technologies and partnerships in this area are focused on creating real value in IoT lighting applications. What makes this part of IOT is that people want these systems to be smart, learning and connected to make them easier to install, maintain, monitor, and adapt for performance”
ACCELERATING DIGITAL LIGHTING APPLICATIONS
With lighting in residential and commercial making up about 15 percent of energy consumption in the U.S., smart lighting has an important role in helping to improve energy efficiency, building performance and the occupant experience. It is an area ripe for innovation in the era of solid state lighting. Smart lighting trends being addressed include dynamic lighting, tunable white and wireless control.
Legrand’s control platforms provide a foundation for smart lighting innovation and enables digital and intelligent light fixtures. The Digital Lighting Management (DLM) and Architectural Dimming platforms offer the most robust digital lighting system available and enable dimming/intensity, correlated color temperature (CCT), hue, and saturation control. DLM, for example, solves the cost and complexity problems of color control of LEDs. It is a scalable best-in-class platform that provides control infrastructure at every switch, outlet, and lighting load for optimal energy performance.
ADDRESSING IMPORTANT AREAS OF IOT
Control and communication are key in digital lighting applications and its success. The company is focused on delivering solutions that address the important connectivity, controls, and data layers of IoT.
Connectivity: Solutions like DLM, an agnostic digital platform enables the addition of the key wireless and digital protocols required for IoT. Building Control Systems (BCS) solutions are built on open standards including BACnet, Ethernet (IEEE 802.3) and Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11). They work with multiple wiring topologies to emerging architectures like Power over Ethernet (PoE). This approach to flexibility allows easy integration within systems.
Controls: Control technology defines the lighting experience. The combination of digital control, LED and software allow the creation, tuning, and control of full spectrum lighting. DLM and a suite of plug together devices such as room controllers, occupancy sensors, daylighting sensors, and wall switches, work together with management tools to automatically coordinate control of lighting and plug loads.
Data: Management tools and software focus on optimizing building performance and reducing energy costs by providing valuable data on each device, sensor, or an entire space. Tools can also provide history and reporting on the site’s operation. Information can reveal patterns and insights, which can then be acted upon to further optimize the system.
