Iot-Enabled Healthy Lighting For The Workplace Enters Next Generation Of Development

NEW YORK, NY, November 10, 2016 —At the North American launch of its ELIOT program to advance connectivity and intelligence in the Built Environment, Legrand today reinforced its pursuit of a dynamic spectrum, IoT, healthy lighting solution for commercial installations. Legrand is advancing towards customizable, dynamic-spectrum lighting solution to enable the optimum health benefits lighting can provide.

Legrand’s Pinnacle brand is currently deploying technology to solve critical circadian issues related to other traditional lighting products by targeting specific melanopic wavelength. This static spectrum solution is ideal for installations where the individual is exposed to artificial lighting for long periods during daylight hours. However, to truly harness the powerful health benefits related to a 24/7 dynamic spectrum solution, an IoT link must be established via Legrand’s resilient digital building infrastructure.

More than simply changing the color temperature to mimic a dawn to dusk environment – a purely psychological impact – Legrand’s IoT solution will target melanopic wavelength and will “follow” the individual as they go through their 24-hour cycle and rely on actual biometric feedback. Each environment they enter throughout the day will be dynamically shifted to match the biological solution required. Legrand’s ability to leverage real-time data on the individual’s biological condition to properly shift the dynamic spectrum will provide the ultimate IoT health lighting solution.

“Because every human is different, each has a unique circadian rhythm and would benefit greatly from a customized lighting solution,” explained John Selldorff, Chief Executive Officer at Legrand North and Central America. “In education, healthcare, offices, factories and a host of other applications, customizable dynamic spectrum lighting provides a positive biological feedback loop to correct circadian issues. This, in turn, equips building occupants to optimize energy and cognition, increase productivity, provides psychological and biological cues to correct sleep patterns and enhance their overall health.”
