New RF-Based Controller Brings Sophisticated Lighting Control To Any Home Network With Simple GUI Interface For PCs And Smartphones

INDIANAPOLIS, IN, September 7, 2011 – Legrand, the leader in home systems and solutions, will be demonstrating its new RF Lighting Event Controller at the CEDIA 2011 Expo in booth # 2315. The RF Lighting Event Controller easily connects to a home network and provides seamless lighting control of any Legrand RF lighting device from a PC and nearly all major handheld smartphone brands.

"Lighting control is highly desirable for nearly all consumers but until now, it's often been too complex for the end user to really take advantage of," said Dave Hanchette, vice president of marketing for the Home Systems Division of Legrand, North America. "Our RF Lighting Event Controller is easily joined to the home network and provides a clear, easy-to-use interface that can be operated from virtually anywhere. We've humanized this killer app, and we think both integrators and their customers are going to love this system."

The Legrand RF Lighting Event Controller provides simplified, accessible remote control of lighting events, loads and scenes from virtually any manufacturer's hand held device, such as an iPhone/iPad, Blackberry or Android-based smart phone. The system provides easy web-based setup via PC for complete control of Legrand TopDog lighting modules throughout the home. The wireless RF-based control module connects to the network via Ethernet and assumes a node identity based DHCP or a fixed IP address. The single external antenna design provides powerful whole-home wireless coverage, and the module is compatible with Zigbee wireless technology for future expansion of the system.

Once connected to the network, the RF Lighting Event Controller offers powerful, flexible control of Legrand lighting devices from virtually any web-enabled device, including:

  • Automatic Timings -- users can easily set on-off events to coincide with daily work and school schedules, controlled by the network server.
  • Groups -- Clusters of lighting devices can be easily joined together and controlled as a single group, such as hallway and entryway; garage and front door, etc.
  • Rooms -- Specific lighting devices can be assigned as a single room and controlled collectively and in conjunction with other rooms.
  • Collections -- Lighting devices take the Groups concept further by allowing specific lighting commands to each individual device in a Group.
  • Scenes -- Complex lighting scenes can be created with specific Groups, Rooms, or Collections added. Each device that is part of a Scene can be set to a desired level and with its own ramp rate.

The intuitive remote interface for the Lighting Event Controller offers both a list view of controllable devices/actions, and an icon-based system that allows users to view additional information on each device, group, room, collection or scene.

The RFLC Event Controller for Legrand lighting systems can be seen at the Legrand exhibit at booth # 2315 at CEDIA 2011, held September 8-10 at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis, IN.
