Legrand | Ortronics Introduces Mighty Mo Air Control Solutions

Passive air control: the most energy efficient method of controlling airflow and temperature in the data center

Passive air control: the most energy efficient method of controlling airflow and temperature in the data center

New London, CT, March 8, 2011 – Legrand | Ortronics, a global leader in high performance network infrastructure solutions, introduces Mighty Mo® Air Control solutions to enhance the separation between the hot and cold aisles - a crucial aspect of best practice airflow design within a data center. The Mighty Mo Air Control passive system improves air flow and optimizes thermal management without adding active cooling equipment, avoiding additional energy costs for cooling.

The cold air containment solutions include, among other products; hanging curtains, retractable aisle covers, compressible plugs and end aisle doors; all designed to eliminate the mixing of hot and cold airflow.

The Air Curtain System has fire resistant vinyl panels that hang from aluminum tracks mounted to the drop ceiling grid above racks and cabinets. The aluminum tracks connect to the ceiling grid by fusible links that release and drop to the floor when temperatures go above 135°F, ensuring that the fire sprinkler pattern is not interrupted. The curtains are available in widths from 12” to 72” and lengths from 29” to 182”.

The Air Cap is a flat, retractable roof system that attaches to the top of racks or cabinets. This retractable cover is held in place with thermal links that release the cover if temperatures go above 135°F. The fire resistant cover is spring loaded and retracts back into the metal cassette during a fire event, also ensuring that the sprinkler pattern is not interrupted and preventing the cover from being exposed to the fire. The cap is available in two sizes: 60” x 30’ and 84” x 30’.

Air Plugs are used to fill in cable openings in the raised floor or any gaps where airflow needs to be blocked. Air Plugs are fireproof, compressible and safe to use around all types of cable, including fiber optic cable. The Air Plugs are available in several sizes to cover most any opening.

Air Doors install at the end of the aisle and are available as a sliding or hinged opening. The door frame is constructed of extruded aluminum and supports clear acrylic sliding doors, bridging an aisle up to 84” wide. The doors ship fully assembled.

Mighty Mo Air Control is part of Layer Zero™. Layer Zero is the proposed infrastructure layer for the ISO/OSI model introduced by Legrand | Ortronics. Layer Zero - the Infrastructure Layer™ - addresses the critical role that the physical infrastructure plays in network performance.
Layer Zero solutions encompass the entire physical infrastructure that supports your network, including aisle containment, racks, cabinets, advanced cable management, pathway solutions, underfloor and overhead systems. By recognizing the importance of the underlying infrastructure layer and emphasizing best practices in pathway and physical support design, a new level of stability can be created for the network.
