Legrand Renames its Product Family of Fiber Solutions Infinium™
And Launches the Most Reliable and Stable Field Installable Connector
NEW LONDON, Conn., June 30, 2014 – As your networks rapidly migrate to higher bandwidth over increased distances, you need quick and easy-to-deploy solutions and future-proof designs from a brand you can trust. At Legrand, we strive to deliver solutions designed to be better, creating increased flexibility, greater efficiency and a superior network design.
With this vision, Legrand has renamed the complete product family of fiber solutions under the name InfiniumTM, offering a complete line of products and systems ranging from high density fiber modules, field installable connectors, cassettes and adapters to patch cords and harnesses, as well as fiber enclosures and trunk cables. This complete set of solutions provides the highest level of performance that the Ortronics product line is known for and unsurpassed integration with the rest of the physical infrastructure offering, such as racks, cabinets and cable management.
In a constant pursuit for innovation, Legrand also announces their newest product, The Infinium field installable connector. The connector uses index matching gel and a mechanical splice in the connector housing to make the highly reliable and stable connector. The Infinium field installable connector requires no special tools for installation, and terminates in less than 2 minutes. The connector is available in LC or SC with either laser-optimized 50 micron or single mode fiber.
The clip that holds the mechanical splice open for field fiber insertion doubles as a visual fault locator (VFL) window. When connected to a VFL, the light shines brightly through the window on the clip. Once the field fiber is installed, the VFL light travels up the field fiber and the light in the window disappears, indicating a good connection. If a connector tests too high, it is easy to re-insert the clip and re-make the connection. No more cutting off scrap connectors and installing another.
Features of the Infinium field-installable connector:
No epoxy, polishing or fusion splicing required
Reusable termination capability (up to 3 times)
VFL window for proper installation
No special tools or skills required
Fast installation – Installs in less than 2 minutes
Factory prepared and verified end face
50 micron LOMF and single-mode versions available
Unlimited shelf life
Backed by the nCompass™ warranty
5-year product warranty
“Utilizing advanced laser interferometry equipment to monitor the manufacturing process, Infinium™ pre-polished field termination connectors exhibit highly controlled end-face geometry resulting in reliable, low insertion loss and minimal return loss connections” says Michael Wood, Product Manager for fiber solutions. “This approach eliminates imprecise epoxy application, time consuming curing and highly variable hand polishing from field installation practices. The net effect is reduced installation expense, higher yield field terminations and better performance.” Adds Mr. Wood.
