LegrandĀ® to Showcase New Product Environmental Profiles at BICSI 2016 Winter Conference

NEW LONDON, February 1, 2016– Legrand®, a global leader in high-performance network infrastructure hardware, today announced that it will be showcasing its new Product Environmental Profiles (PEPs) in the Legrand booth (Booth #407) at the 2016 BICSI Winter Conference January 31-February 4, 2016.

Developed through the PEP ecopassport program, PEPs are Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) that are specific for electric, electronic, and HVAC products and are written in compliance with the ISO 14025 standard. PEPs summarize a product’s life cycle assessment, which examines the environmental impact of a product or product family throughout its lifecycle. This declaration provides the credible transparency information necessary to document a product’s environmental impact in a widely accepted and standardized format. These declarations contribute to earning points for green building rating systems for the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification, as well as for Green Globes and the Living Building Challenge.

PEPs are a feature of the nCompass Systems suite of high-performance copper and optical fiber structured cabling systems developed in a collaboration between Legrand and Superior Essex. nCompass Systems are the first and only cabling systems that can contribute to the LEED certification for building projects – the de facto standard for rating and certifying the design, construction, maintenance, and operations of green building projects in the U.S. for new construction and existing structures.

Now in its 32nd year exhibiting at BICSI, Legrand is located in Booth #407 – the company’s largest-ever footprint at the show. The Legrand exhibit will feature multiple innovation showcases, including the new PEP offering that allows products to contribute to LEED certification.

“The most recent revisions of leading building sustainability performance mechanisms have driven demand for product transparency to new heights, with building owners and data center managers now wanting to know what is in their infrastructure products and what environmental impacts they pose,” said Mark Panico, president of Legrand Data Communications. “This means that manufacturers must explore their own supply chains and manufacturing practices, and evolve with the growing consumer demand for sustainable products.”

Legrand expects PEPs to benefit its customers in several ways. Products with a PEP contribute towards earning points for green building certification projects, for example by awarding 1 point towards the Building Product Disclosure and Optimization credit in LEED version 4. PEPs also fulfill product specifications by providing products that have life cycle information available.

“Legrand recognizes the value PEPs offer to its customers – particularly those seeking to demonstrate a commitment to environmental responsibility,” said Panico. “Building owners and construction leads can take advantage of these product declarations to achieve LEED and other credits and enhance their standing with consumers.”

“Legrand is pleased to be an industry leader in offering our customers this level of product transparency, and we will use this understanding of our environmental impacts to improve the profile of future products,” said Susan Rochford, VP, Energy Efficiency, Sustainability and Public Policy at Legrand.
