Syracuse, NY, September 15, 2009 — Pass & Seymour/Legrand (P&S), a leading provider of electrical wiring devices and home systems, has been named a winner in TED Magazine’s 2009 Best of the Best annual marketing awards competition. The company was recognized in the direct promotion category for its NEC® Adoption Support Mailing.
The 2008 National Electrical Code® (NEC) required Tamper-Resistant Receptacles to be installed in new homes. The receptacles offer continuous and constant protection for children against electrical injuries, with a built-in shutter system that prevents them from inserting objects into electrical sockets.
P&S’s NEC Adoption Support Mailing requested support from electrical inspectors for adoption of the Tamper-Resistant Receptacle requirement, state by state. Each mailing, sent to 4,000 inspectors nationwide, included a Tamper-Resistant product card with an attached plug and paper clip to demonstrate the shutter system’s function. A product-launch CD featured product images, video, a presentation with Code details, and more. A support-request letter outlined the Code requirements and the safety benefits of Tamper-Resistant Receptacles.
“We take pride in all of our marketing efforts, but this project raised awareness of a very important safety standard,” said Jim Lent, marketing communications manager at P&S. “The mailing enabled us to get the right information to key decision makers, and we’re thrilled to have earned this recognition.”
TED Magazine’s annual Best of the Best awards program honors marketing excellence and recognizes creativity within the electrical industry in companies of all sizes. Distributors and manufacturers/suppliers are judged against their peers in multiple divisions based on sales volume.
