Legrand Introduces a Self-Testing GFCI Receptacle

Pass & Seymour® Self-Test GFCI Receptacle Prevents the Unsafe Condition of Power without Protection

Pass & Seymour Self-Test GFCI Receptacle

SYRACUSE, NY, July 30, 2013—Legrand, a leading provider of electrical wiring devices and home systems, today announced the availability of its new Pass & Seymour® Self-Test GFCI Receptacle (Self-Test GFCI Receptacle).

The new Pass & Seymour Self-Test GFCI with SafeLock Protection™ conducts an automatic test every second, ensuring it’s always ready to protect. If the device fails the test, the indicator light flashes to signal that the GFCI should be replaced. It also has our proven SafeLock Protection feature: if critical components are damaged and protection is lost, power to the receptacle will be locked out.

The Self-Test GFCI Receptacle is rated at 15A/125V and is ideal for most areas where the risk of electrical shock exists including kitchens, bathrooms, garages and basements.

“We developed the Self-Test GFCI Receptacle based on research – many people do not test their GFCI receptacles on a regular basis, placing themselves and others at risk,” said Bill Timmons, marketing manager of residential products for Legrand Electrical Wiring Systems. “We have introduced a product that performs the test itself.”

The Self-Test GFCI Receptacle is the most durable GFCI receptacle available. It exceeds UL943 voltage surge requirements and survives 100X the required UL 3kA/6kV voltage surge test cycles.

Easy installation of the new Self-Test GFCI Receptacle is enhanced by side or internal screw-pressure plate back-wire termination. It takes #14-#10 AWG stranded or solid, copper or copperclad conductors.

The new GFCI receptacle has a ground terminal back-wire clamp, also facilitating fast installation, and an auto-ground clip that assures a positive ground to metal box. Two back-wire holes per termination add wiring flexibility, eliminate pigtailing, and save box space.

It is manufactured from high-impact-resistant, thermoplastic construction, which provides superior strength and durability and is available in the following colors: ivory, light almond, white, red, brown and gray.

Pass & Seymour invented the first GFCI Receptacle in 1971.
