Legrand Introduces PlugTail® Commercial Specification Grade USB Charging Receptacles
Dual USB ports enable receptacles to charge both USB Type-A and Type-C devices
SYRACUSE, NY, Apr. 11, 2017 — In an era when people are always on the go, mobile charging devices are in high demand. The new PlugTail Commercial Specification Grade USB Charging Receptacles from Legrand feature dual USB Type-A and Type-C ports to provide the convenience of mobile charging without the need for a bulky AC adaptor. They are equipped with two UL Fed Spec AC receptacles and available in 15 and 20A configurations to meet the power requirements of any commercial application.
Supporting new technology
As mobile technology advances to deliver faster charging and data processing, the transition from USB Type-A to USB Type-C ports marks the next phase in the evolution.
“We’ve already seen some major technology manufacturers begin the transition to USB Type-C ports. Like the shift from VGA to HDMI, the conversion will not happen overnight,” said Kevin Kohl, product manager – Pass & Seymour®, at Legrand North America. “Legrand predicts the changeover will take several years, and USB Type-A and Type-C technologies will coexist in the market in the meantime. That’s why the new PlugTail USB Charging Receptacles feature both USB Type-A and USB Type-C ports, which enables electrical contractors the unique ability to provide their customers with quick installation, convenient charging solutions throughout the transition period.”
The PlugTail USB Charging Receptacles have a 15.5W power supply to efficiently charge mobile phones, tablets and other peripherals. They can be used anywhere people gather, including airports, hotel lobbies, office spaces, restaurants, schools and universities, and waiting rooms.
Lower installation costs
As the latest additions to the PlugTail product line, the USB Charging Receptacles are quick and easy to install. Like other PlugTail solutions, the receptacles simply snap into the universal prewired pigtail connector. Since they install three times faster than traditional wiring devices, PlugTail wiring devices provide the electrical contractor with more efficient operation on the jobsite. PlugTail products also allow contractors to swap out receptacles in minutes — which is important as technology evolves, upgrades become available, spaces are reconfigured or codes change. Because contractors can complete changeouts without rewiring a space, they can complete more jobs per week and add money to the bottom line.
The PlugTail USB Charging Receptacles will also soon be available in hospital-grade configurations to help serve a large, established vertical market for future-wired devices.
