ASHRAE judges recognize WattStopper’s integration-friendly lighting controls for importance to Building Automation

SANTA CLARA, CA. January 2013 - WattStopper’s Digital Lighting Management (DLM) LMRC-220 Series Digital Dimming Room Controllers were the only lighting control products selected by a panel of American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) judges evaluating 2013 AHR Expo Innovation Award entries. The controllers simplify compliance with new code-mandated multi-level control requirements, and can easily be incorporated into intelligent buildings.

Sponsored by ASHRAE, the Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) and the International Exposition Company (IEC) with the goals of encouraging cutting edge thinking and new product development, the awards recognize the most creative, effective and ingenious HVACR products and technologies on the market. The criteria are innovation, application, value to the user and market impact. WattStopper’s new room controller was awarded an Honorable Mention in the Building Automation category. One product was named the winner of each category, and a select few products received Honorable Mentions.

WattStopper’s new room controllers can dim virtually all line voltage load types including LEDs, and are part of the company’s DLM suite of intelligent controls. Applications include daylight harvesting, lumen maintenance and scene control in areas from classrooms to offices, conference rooms, restaurants and galleries. When a buildingwide energy management system is in place, the devices communicate via BACnet with a building automation system for control, reporting and demand response.

The one load LMRC-221 and two load LMRC-222 mount in the plenum and provide distributed control for lighting loads, as well as current monitoring of the total connected load. The LMRC-222 can control a different type of load on each output. Advanced features include three selectable dimming curves for each load as well as programmable trim levels and fade times. Dimming parameters may be conveniently customized from a wireless handheld configuration tool that can also be used to set up lighting scenes.

WattStopper’s Director of Product Marketing Eric Fournier commented, “I am delighted that the AHR Expo Innovation Award judges recognized the value that Digital Lighting Management offers to integrators with native BACnet and native Niagara solutions. WattStopper products are based on open protocols to provide owners and integrators with the greatest flexibility, and we provide an unprecedented number of points for integration. We also provide valuable tools and services to simplify integration, from the ability to create focused export tables of specific points, to a free Niagara AX driver featuring automatic discovery of all available objects. This award recognizes WattStopper’s commitment to innovating for high performance buildings.
