Step 1: Determine locations for speakers and accessories

• Each evōQ 3000 In-Ceiling Speaker should be located along the ceiling centerline, approximately 20% of the total centerline measurement out from each wall.
• For instance, if the room’s centerline is 10’ long, locate each speaker 2’ out from opposing walls, leaving 6’ between each speaker.
• The volume control should be located at light switch height on an inside wall to avoid the insulation typically found in outside walls.
• The 4-Zone Audio Distribution Outlet typically would be located at outlet height on an inside wall behind or near your audio equipment. It should not be mounted in a firewall.

Step 2: Cut mounting holes

• Use the provided speaker mounting template to mark a circle at each speaker location and cut a round opening (7 ¾” in diameter) with the drywall saw.

Step 2: Cut mounting holes     Step 2: Cut mounting holes

• Temporarily remove any insulation.
• If possible, verify that there are no electrical wires running across the marked location prior to cutting the holes.
• For the volume control and the 4-Zone distribution outlet, draw a rectangle (2 1/4" wide by 3 3/4" high) at your marked location and cut the drywall.
• Insert a low voltage bracket into each hole and use a screwdriver to secure the brackets with the flip out wings.

        Step 2: Cut mounting hole

Step 3: Run wires through wall and ceiling

• Cut all wires to an estimated length and feed them down from the attic through holes drilled in the wall top studs to each marked volume control location and audio distribution outlet location.
• Run a single 16/4 speaker wire from the 4-Zone audio distribution outlet to the volume control location.
• Run a single 16/2 speaker wire from the volume control location to each speaker location in each room.
• If using this for an outdoor application with outdoor speakers you will need to apply a bead of sealant in the outside wall access hole to prevent any weather damage. (keep in mind that ALL volume controls are for indoor use only)

Step 4: Connect wires to speakers

• For in-ceiling speakers, strip approximately 3/8” of insulation from each conductor and connect the 16/2 speaker wires to the black and red push-to-insert-style terminals on each speaker.
• Mount the speakers using the flip-out screw brackets.
• Note: To maximize speaker efficiency, you can build a speaker back box as described on the speaker Instruction/Installation sheet.
o Before mounting the speaker, fill the back box cavity with a good quality insulation.
o After mounting, cover the cavity with a piece of plywood or MDF to complete the back box.
• For maximum sound output, make sure you wire your speakers “in phase” by running the conductor from the “+” on the volume control to the red terminal on the speaker.

Step 5: Connect wires to volume control

• Pull the 16/4 speaker wire from the 4-Port Wall Plate through the volume control bracket.
• Strip approximately 3/8” of insulation from each conductor and connect to the appropriate input screw terminals on the back of the volume control.
• Keep conductors in phase (Hot conductors grouped).
• Pull the 16/2 wires from the speakers through the volume control bracket.
• Strip approximately 3/8” of insulation from each conductor and connect them to the appropriate output screw terminals on the back of the volume control.
• Mount the volume control in the bracket and attach the wall plate cover.

Step 7: Sit back and enjoy your music

Step 6: Connect Wire to 4-Zone Audio Distribution Outlet

• At the 4-Port Wall Plate location, pull the 16/4 wire from the volume control through the outlet bracket.
• Strip approximately 3/8” of insulation from each conductor and connect to the appropriate screw terminals on the back of the four banana plugs.
• Mount the wall plate in the bracket and attach the wall plate cover.
• Run 16/4 speaker wire from the left and right speaker connections on the back of your receiver/amplifier to the 4-Zone audio outlet.
• Strip approximately 3/8” of insulation from each conductor and insert into the screw terminals of the speaker wire plugs.
• Insert the banana plugs into the front of the Audio Distribution outlet.
