The much-anticipated full length album The Bones of What You Believe, from talented Scottish indie pop trio Chvrches, has become my newest musical obsession. Their music is a call-back to 80’s minimalist synth pop like Depeche Mode, yet at the same time sounds very current and new. They are able to blend the dreamy sounds of synth and drum machines (hardly a guitar is heard on the entire album) with very catchy lyrics and memorable hooks. And lead singer Lauren Mayberry’s voice is so light and beautiful and relatable - full of emotion without being overwrought. With this breakout album, Chvrches have created the perfect intersection of electronic dance music and catchy indie pop. Do yourself a favor and check them out!
