Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross

And now for something completely different: This week I offer up the newly released soundtrack for upcoming thriller Gone Girl. I’m definitely one of the people who notices and really cares about the music used in films (both original scores and any pre-existing songs added in), and as a fan of the book this movie is adapted from, I was pretty eager to give this album a listen. The Gone Girl score is yet another collaboration for Atticus Ross and Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor. The duo has won an Oscar previously for their score of 2010’s The Social Network, as well as a Grammy for their score of the American version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo last year. To be quite honest, I will not be surprised to find them nominated for both awards again with this offering.

As much as I love dancing about and singing along, there are times when an instrumental soundtrack is the perfect background music for my life, and I think Gone Girl’s just might get a lot of play. Appropriately eerie and evocative for the movie it is tied to, it still manages to be quite beautiful… and even weirdly calming at times. Give a listen to a three track sample in the video below.
