Sleeping At Last

Monday, August 10, 2015 | by Caitie Tieman

I spent almost the entire weekend listening to Sleeping At Last. The enduring, extensive, and exquisite recording project of Ryan O’Neal, Sleeping At Last has crafted and manipulated the moods in a multitude of cinematographic scenes, being featured frequently in television and film (including a Grey’s Anatomy commissioned album of cover songs for use on the show). Featuring composition that is relentlessly elegant, and so frequently moving, both Ryan’s strictly instrumental and more traditional ballad works are soothing and graceful without fail. Some of my favorites from this weekend are below, spanning several years of Ryan’s discography.

Unrelated: Just this morning, Beach House released two new preview tracks from their upcoming album Depression Cherry…though you have to get to them through the tricky new single finder on their website. Still, potentially worth investigating if you’ve enjoyed the duo’s past albums as much as I have.
