A few months ago, Legrand announced a partnership with Fiber Mountain, Inc., the Glass Core™ Company and provider of transformative software-defined networking (SDN) managed fiber connectivity for enterprise and colocation data centers.
This partnership allows Legrand to offer the Intelligent Cross Connect, providing our customers with a software-managed fiber connectivity layer with Legrand’s extensive range of fiber cabling and connectivity solutions.
The Intelligent Cross Connect provides a virtual connectivity fabric that enables dynamic layer 1 network switching, which, when used in conjunction with switch and router networks, provides the highest level of network control.
We’re already integrating the Intelligent Cross Connect into our Connected Infrastructure solutions to deliver dynamic and managed fiber connections to complement Legrand’s current data center offerings.
Why software based management? It delivers the ultimate in terms of:
- Remote real-time visibility and monitoring
- Automated network re-configurability
- Remote network management
- Optimized power and cooling for switching equipment
We expect these data center infrastructure connectivity offerings to provide significant benefits, including:
- CAPEX/OPEX savings
- Reducing or eliminating human errors
- Reducing labor costs
- Enhancing asset management

Just a few weeks ago, more than 25 inches of rain fell in just three days in the Bayou-Lafayette region of Louisiana, resulting in catastrophic flooding. 13 deaths; 30,000 evacuations; 150,000 homes damaged, and $8.7 billion in economic loss. The Louisiana floods have been deemed the worst natural disaster since Superstorm Sandy in 2012. President Obama declared 22 parishes in the area to be major disaster areas. Thousands of families are still residing in shelters and the recovery is just getting underway.
In recognition of the severity of this disaster, and knowing others will inevitably follow, Legrand is encouraging employees to contribute to the American Red Cross. Over the next 90 days Legrand will match employee contributions up to a total of $100,000. That means that, together, we have the potential to contribute $100,000! LNA’s minimum corporate donation will be $50,000.

When the term “Internet of Things” began to reemerge in the past several years many saw it as simply another buzzword in the industry. The impact of IoT started to be observed in the industrial sector and has just recently, in the past few years, been seen in the consumer space. IoT is no longer a buzzword, it has grown with the maturity of technology and will continue to grow, with greater focus on enhancing security, connectivity, accessibility and performance.
Indeed, with more businesses than ever touting IoT, our ability to innovate and revolutionize intelligent machine to machine (M2M) communication has surpassed what anyone knew was possible.
Of course we’re happy more and more people have become believers, but we’re far more excited about the significant increase in IoT investors that have bought in (literally and figuratively). As the IoT is completely adaptable and scalable to virtually any needs, there are potentially an infinite number of verticals in which this network technology can be employed to drastically improve both cost and time efficiency.
On June 21st, Samsung announced that it would allocate $1.2 billion for IoT research and development, a revelation that we here at Legrand are thrilled about, as earlier this year, we partnered with Samsung to deliver the world’s first thread-enabled IoT light switch, a historic release for both companies.
Legrand’s vision is not simply linked to Samsung, though. As other device manufacturers follow suit, the already numerous ways in which our product can be woven in to everyday life will grow tremendously. A new era of connectivity has just been kicked off! Make sure you don’t miss the movement.
