LAN Standards, News & Trends – 2016 Update

Monday, April 4, 2016

This webinar review the latest standards development activities in IEEE 802.3, TIA TR-42 and Fibre Channel.   Learn about new and ongoing work in IEEE 802.3, the working group that develops standards for Ethernet networks.  Also learn about the TIA TR-42 projects that IEEE 802.3 has influenced.  TR-42 is the TIA engineering committee that develops and maintains voluntary telecommunications standards for telecommunications cabling infrastructure in user-owned buildings, such as commercial buildings, residential buildings, homes, data centers, industrial buildings, etc.  The TR-42 subcommittees are completing some work like the category 8 standard, along with some new work that will impact design considerations like the Wide Band Multimode Fiber (WBMMF) standard which will define a multimode fiber capable of supporting at least four different wavelengths (decreasing fiber counts by ¼).  A quick look at the roadmap of Fibre Channel, an important network technology for storage area networks, will also be reviewed.   The update will be provided by the FOTC Standards Chair Cindy Montstream of Legrand and Adrian Young of Fluke.
