I bought this at my local hardware store. I wanted to hide the cords that go up to my wall mounted TV. I first tried buying pieces and parts to make this work. I was so close, but the power cord to the TV was not long enough once I ran it through the wall. I knew I shouldn't just run an extension cord through the wall. However, that's essentially what this kit does.
It also includes an electrical box to plug your TV and any other devices that need to plug in up high.
My beef with this kit is the poor installation instructions. I'm a mid-level do it yourself person. The instructions are little more than a thin cardboard piece of paper that you can use to trace for cutting the drywall up the wall to install the electrical box and upper level cord transfer piece. As for the piece that gets installed low on the wall to run your cords up to the TV, well, you're nearly on your own. It says to install the mud box, but it doesn't tell you what the mud box is. It's a piece that installs into drywall, to run cords up your wall. It has a note on it that tells you the wall cutout dimensions. A template would have helped.
Be sure to run all your wires and cords through the wall before you screw the top and bottom piece into the wall. Once it's in, it's difficult to run the wires. Of course, I have a wall with batt fiberglass insulation, so that adds difficulty.
Bottom line, I was able to run the power and the HDMI cord with this kit, and I still have a plug up near the TV for a Google or Roku plug in. However I had to intuit what steps to take and when to do what. If I did it again, I would only take 90 minutes to install it. The 30 minute install time on the box is a joke. With knowledge and perfect conditions...maybe. For mortals, double or triple the install time.

Is there a problem in installing it on a wall containing metal studs?
This unit attaches to the drywall and therefore does not interact with the studs. As long as the metal studs are a standard depth comparable to a 2x4, there will be no issue using this product.

Can this be used on an exterior wall which contains insulation? The wall is made of 2x6 studs.
yes, but fishing the wires will be more difficult due to the insulation.

Can this be used on a 2x3" interior wall?
the depth of the module without the electrical back box is 2.58 inches. With the electrical j-box attached, it will likely be too deep for your wall cavity.
