Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very Sleek and Functional Dimmer! I've put this in my new house in place of many old rotary knobs that were installed probably a while ago. The dimmer works very well for most fixtures. We had incandescent type fixtures in most cases and it works very well with the LED replacement bulbs that we bought. However, we did update one fixture to a pure LED flushmount fixture and I noticed there was some flickering at mid-level dimming. I think we can work with it, but would be nice to have the full range of dimming as an option. I suspect it's just a low resistance issue as I only have one fixture on that dimmer. Just something to keep in mind if you are looking at this dimmer. But all in all, it's great to have the ease of use of a paddle switch with the dimming slider in one device.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Durable reliable I got one of these switches to try out and I liked the way it worked so much that I switched all of my dimmer switches in my house to this same brand and style. The ones I had before hummed when dimmed down and these have not done that at all to me.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Misleading Incompatible with low voltage LED bulbs. When converted to LEDs, no light fixture in my home pulls enough current to work with this dimmer. Adjusting the trim simply keeps the bulbs from dimming to the point of flicker (defeating the point of having a dimmer if the lights cannot be dimmed). I only discovered some fine print, ~"not for 0-10v" after extensive research. This information is nowhere on the box or packaging. Frustratingly, I really like the fit, feel, and finish of this switch. I am considering returning to incandescent bulbs in the fixture just so I can keep this switch.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Awful dimming This dimmer flickers dimmable 2700k LED recessed can lights retrofit modules , thats just ridiculous , any dimmer would dim a 40 watt or 4 10 watt led load minimum, but this awful product can’t even do that and it rated for LED but not 0 to 10 volt driver ?? All LED products have that rating now , poor design and engineering I will never use another Legrand product for any reason, I’ve been an electrician for 35 years

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Dimmer We've used them through out our house but this one was defective and I had to return it because the hot wire screw was stripped. I will repurchase because I think this was a one time thing and they are a beautiful update to our home

Questions & Answers

Bought a 3-pack of these switches for a basement remodel. One of the switches does not dim the lights. Went through the "calibration" process in the instructions just in case, but to no avail. Is there possibly a fault inside the switch?

I have an RHCL453P dimmer switch left over from another build. Will this be compatible with my light fixture that uses 16 40w G9 xenon bulbs? This is nearly 700w and I see from the spec sheet, the switch supports up to 750w for halogen bulbs.

Asked by: PNW_Cabanaboy
The RHCL453P dimmer is rated for 700w of Incandescent and 450w of LED or CFL lighting loads, therefor this may not be compatible with your application. Please call in to Technical support to discuss your application in detail and we may be able to suggest an alternative.

We want a radiant dimmer in graphite for our new LED Bath Bar (https://www.build.com/tech-lighting-700bcspanb4-led930/s1330238?uid=4297339) Is this model (RHCL453PGCCV4) compatible with it? Does this dimmer work in damp, bathroom locations at all?

Asked by: Anonymous
The LED spec sheet states an ELV dimmer on 120V, so that would be the RH703PTUTC and RHKITGPCCV6 to make the dimmer Graphite. The dimmer can be used in bathrooms.

I just installed a grand three way switches that feed 44 inch canned recessed LED lights and the first light seems to have leaking voltage with the switch is off. What gives

Asked by: I just installed a grand
This dimmer designed for use with most compact fluorescent and LED dimmable screw-in bulbs. Most recessed can LED's have a built in or external driver and we would recommend the universal dimmer(RH703PTUTC) for that type of lighting. You can try using the calibration wheel on the RHCL453 dimmer to adjust the low end trim(see instructions). If that doesn't work you may need to try the other dimmer.

Installed dimmer switch RhCL453P in exitsing light circuit (replaced previous white switch) now LED 6” eyeball lights don’t light full bright. Slider is Original wiring not changed - only the swapped out switch. Why don’t my lights get full bright?

Asked by: Stan
The RCL453P dimmer is designed for screw-in based led bulbs and does not have a high end trim adjustment. If your "eyeball" led's have an external or built in driver, you may want to use the universal dimmer for them. Or check with the LED manufacturer to see what type of dimmer they recommend. https://www.legrand.us/wiring-devices/light-switches-and-dimmers/dimmers/radiant-tru-universal-single-pole-3-way-dimmer/p/rh703ptutc?text=rh703ptutc

Asked by: jim31
Hello Jim31, Thank you for contacting legrand Technical Support. Please review the following information that can be located within the installation documentation for part RHCL453PW. Note: It is normal for the dimmer to feel warm during operation. Use a separate neutral wire for each phase of a multiphase system containing a dimmer, and for high power single phase applications where flickering is present. Any combination of dimmers and other devices may be ganged together Best regards, Justin

I am using the RHCL453P with 6 light bulbs, 8.8 watts each and dimmable on two bathroom light fixtures. Does the 6 bulbs then make the total wattage exceed the minimum of 10 watts? They started to flicker recently at the highest setting.

Asked by: Gordon
If you have 6 bulbs at 8.8W's that is a total of 52.8W's and the dimmer is rated up to 450W's of LED. The 10W in the minimum load required and you are above that so that is not an issue.
