Sustainability Built In
Better Operations, Better Lives, Better Performance
At Legrand, North America, we’re committed to leading by example within our own operations, to developing high quality solutions for our customers’ High Performance Buildings, and to transforming how people live and work – more safely, more comfortably, more efficiently.

Legrand’s sustainability story comes in three chapters and is a core principle built into everything we do to advance your goals.
Better Operations:
A commitment to a leadership role in operational excellence through environmental management, optimizing the way we manage energy, water and waste.

We recently established new targets to meet by the year 2022:

Reduce energy intensity by another 25%
  • Legrand joined the U.S. Department of Energy Better Buildings, Better Plants initiative in 2011. By 2014, we had already reduced our energy intensity by 38%.
  • In May 2016, we installed a fuel cell at our corporate headquarters that now produces 88% of the power used at the facility. Each weekday we also net-meter power back to the grid. Reducing our carbon footprint even further.
  • We maintain ISO 14001 certification across our North American facilities.
Reduce water intensity by 25%
  • In 2014, we developed a water policy to better manage this vital resource.
  • In 2016, we reduced our water consumption by nearly 37,000 gallons per month over our 2012 baseline.
Eliminate waste-to-landfill
  • We are committed to completely eliminating our waste-to-landfill and developed a solid waste policy to guide our facilities in better managing their waste streams.
  • Since 2012, we have diverted 94% of our solid waste from landfills.
Better Lives:
A dedication to enhancing employee and community welfare through programs that help people enjoy healthier, more productive and more rewarding lives.

Our Better Communities program exemplifies our commitment to transforming how people work and live with a focus on better homes for those in need and better schools for our local communities. In 2016 alone:
  • Our employees volunteered more than 1,100 hours of their time to not-for-profit and charitable causes.
  • Legrand, North America and our employees donated $380,000 to charitable organizations, including Building Homes for Heroes and The American Red Cross.
Better Performance:
A core principle of designing for sustainability drives us to innovate products and systems that enable buildings to reach exceptional levels of performance, bringing about industry-leading ideas, inventions and initiatives.

We support the High Performance Buildings marketplace by offering innovative products and systems with attributes optimized on a life-cycle basis.
  • Legrand products can contribute to over 30 points in projects seeking LEED® certification.
  • We are committed to achieving RoHS conformity for 100% of product revenue by 2018.
  • The PEP ecopassports® we hold more than 500 products demonstrate our commitment to transparency.
