Questions & Answers

How do I determine the intervals at which I require Expansion Splice Kits (EZ-2)? I cannot see that information in the Installation Guide.

Asked by: Max
The spacing between expansion splices is determined from the temperature differential and straight tray footage between bends. NEMA VE2/NEMA BI50016 standards publish a table used to determine this spacing. As an example, for a temperature differential of 25 degrees Fahrenheit, expansion splices should be used with wire mesh cable tray every 512 feet between bends. It is rare that expansion comes into play with wire mesh cable tray. For additional information, please reach out to Cablofil tech support at technical.support-CAB@legrand.us

I am making sweeping 90s out of 18" basket tray. I always use 9 cuts out of the side to make my 90. My supervisor says it only takes 8. If I make one with 8 it is an incomplete 90. Can you provide me with the correct documentation for making a sweeping 90

Asked by: Anonymous
I would say you are correct. On page 18 of the Legrand Installation Guide, shows 9 cuts are needed for a sweep 90 on an 18" wide cable tray.

Cable fill tables can be found on Cablofil's catalog page A.7. There is also a cable fill sizing tool that can be downloaded from https://www.legrand.us/tools.

For the Cable Tray, CF105/150, is yellow an option for the custom paint finish?

Asked by: Atalie
Yes. Add the suffix PE, CF105/150PE. When you submit the quotation request to your local sales rep or distributor, add a note that PE = yellow.

The max. wire diameter is listed as 5.9mm. What is the minimum wire diameter?

Asked by: ShDUVA
As the original inventor and world’s largest manufacturer of welded wire mesh cable tray, Cablofil cable tray products have many unique and patented features. Through our research and design efforts, we have discovered that certain wires in the cable tray are load bearing and other wires are not load bearing. Our cable tray design has increased the diameters of the load bearing wires 25% greater than 0.196” and the non-loadbearing wires at or slightly below 0.196”. This unique combination of wire sizes, patented in the United States and around the world, allows Cablofil cable trays to be stronger than the competitors that must use all 4mm diameter wires to achieve comparable load capacity. Cablofil cable trays also deflect less when loaded and are faster to cut since only the load bearing wires are larger. I recommend using load tables to compare strength of trays as cable diameter does not correlate to a stronger product.

Should 18" wide tray be supported on each side of tray if suspended from ceiling?

Asked by: Brent Volkert
Typical ceiling-hung wire mesh installations include an AS trapeze hanging clip on each side rail, a FASP trapeze hanger or a FASPCH center hanger.
