Questions & Answers

What is the difference between hcl453p and rhcl453p?

Asked by: Elaine Langer Allen
The HCL453 is a multilocation dimmer designed to be used with the companion HMR device. By comparison, the RHCL453 dimmer is used for traditional single pole/3-way applications (1 dimmer with 1 or more switches)

I installed the HCL453PPM and one HMR to control the lights to a n older Hunter Douglas ceiling fan. The ceiling fan has 4 LED bulbs installed. When l dim to off it works just like it should. 20 secl later 1 bulb will turn on like a night light.

I am using the HCL453PMM master switch with 4 of the correct HMR's. The switches work great but the breaker, switch, and light have a " buzz" to them. I installed 12 6" canless Sylvania gimble 1000L lights. Are these fixtures compatible with this switch?

Asked by: Dm1991
For specific application information, please review the specifications of the HCL453PMM and the lighting fixtures you're using. Specifically as it relates to the dimming method (Forward/Reverse as well as the total wattage for the fixture). If you'd like to discuss further, please give our Technical Support Team a call at 844-957-3783.

I have a 2 HCL453PMMW dimmers that are installed together in box controlling 2 different light set and each has a multi location dimmer as well. I can not dimmer lights if both dimmers are on as it seems one interferes with the other.

Are these dimmers programmable, similar to a Lutron Maestro? I'm looking to program the HDL, LDL, and other similar settings

Asked by: PFarjad
Hello PFarjad, Please review the following notes for Dimmer HCL453PMMW. To reduce the risk of overheating and possible damage to this product or other equipment do not use this product to control a receptacle, a motor operated appliance or a transformer based appliance. • Do not use this product with loads whose power requirements exceed the maximum power (stated in watts, amperes or volt-amperes) of the dimmer. • Use only with incandescent, compatible dimmable CFL/LED bulbs which screw into conventional incandescent lamp sockets, or MLV loads (compatible bulbs listed at www.legrand.us). • A 5 watt minimum load is required. • Do not connect this product to a power source other than 120VAC, 60Hz. • Use copper wire only. • Always slide the Air Gap Switch to the full down (OFF) position when changing a light bulb. • For MLV loads: - The maximum VA rating of this dimmer applies to the transformer input of the MLV, not the load connected to the transformer secondary of the MLV. - Do not use to control a solid state electronic low voltage transformer. - Do not use with inoperative or missing lamps. Use of this dimmer with inoperative or missing lamps can create an over current condition which may damage the transformer. Use transformers that incorporate thermal protection or a fuse at the primary windings. Please feel free to contact legrand technical support if you need further assistance. Can the Master Switch be located at either end of a 3 way or anywhere on a 4 way switch circuit? The instruction make it appear that the master switch has to be at the beginning of the line where the main power line comes into the box.

Asked by: Drew
The master dimmer needs to be install on the LINE side of the circuit.
