Is there a medium base lampholder product that is designed to work off of a wall switch? Can the product I am looking at be adapted to work off of a wall switch, while the outlet stays live?

Yes, this lampholder is designed for two circuits. One for the outlet to be HOT all the time and the other is for the bulb socket, which you can wire/control from a wall switch. You would need to leave the pullchain in the ON position.
