Questions & Answers
Have these been tested for their impact on the STC rating between floors? We have an application requiring and STC 50 rating between floors. Curious if the core drill requires any special sealing around the assembly/insulation wrap to maintain the rating
Hello,
These products have not been specifically tested for their impact on STC ratings between floor assemblies. Any STC performance is determined by the overall floor construction, not solely by the core‑drilled opening.
For applications requiring an STC 50 rating, any core‑drilled penetration would typically need to be properly sealed and treated using approved fire‑stopping and acoustic sealing methods, in accordance with the floor assembly design and applicable building codes. This may include the use of acoustical sealants, wraps, or insulation systems as specified by the project’s acoustical or fire‑protection requirements.
We recommend consulting the building design professional, acoustical engineer, and local AHJ to confirm the appropriate sealing method needed to maintain the required STC rating.
