Our your receptacles tested to withstand higher than nominal voltage ratings? If so, is there a particular standard and what is the max withstand rating for a 125V receptacle. Thanks.
All receptacles listed to UL 498 are required to withstand a voltage application higher than the rated voltage. This is called a dielectric test. The voltage level that a receptacle must withstand for one minute are shown below. 2000V for devices rated 300V or less. 3000V for devices rated greater than 300V. Please note this does not mean that a receptacle can be continuously operated at these voltages. A receptacle should never be connected to a voltage source with a voltage greater than the marked rating.
