Top Interior Paint Colors and Wall Plate Combos for 2023

Explore the latest interior paint trends (with bonus style from the adorne Collection).

January 2023

One of the highlights of a new year (for home DIY and décor enthusiasts at least) is always rounding up the top paint picks for a peek at where interior design is headed.

And after the year of greens that was 2022, a heatwave has seemingly hit the hues for 2023, with both warm neutrals and saturated shades of pink being selected by several leading brands as their “Color of the Year.”

Explore the trending colors below, and check out our favorite designer wall plate pairings, for some new year’s inspiration for your home.

Behr

Color of the Year:

Blank Canvas

(DC-003)

With a name like “Blank Canvas,” you just know this is going to be a paint pick that’s a perfect, fresh start for any style of décor. With a welcoming hint of warmth but enough true neutrality to fit every taste, there’s no limit to where this color can fit or what designs you can build around it. Try a balancing act by matching it with bolder textures or darker finishes, like those of our Macassar or Satin Black Wall Plates. Or keep warming things up with trending metallics like our Brushed Satin Brass, Matte Antique Copper or any of these fantastic Bronze options: Bronze, Hubbardton Forge Bronze, or Oil-Rubbed Bronze

Benjamin Moore

Color of the Year:

Raspberry Blush

(2008-30)

Even beyond the name, there’s something delicious about this pick from Benjamin Moore. The manufacturer’s description mentions “electric optimism,” and we agree – this is a shade that brings energy and joy to a space (and hopefully to all those with in). Play up the vibrance (and the luxury) of this color pick by pairing it with decorative wall plates in Coffee or the stunning Mirror and Mirror Black finishes.

Sherwin-Williams

Color of the Year:

Redend Point SW 9081

Earthy and soft, this is the shade of an Arizona desert at sunset or a shaded canyon wall. While calming, it’s blushing undertones also hint at a little mystery or intrigue – making it a versatile choice for any room. We like the way adorne Screwless Wall Plates in Satin Light Almond or Golden Sands can lighten-and-brighten against this backdrop without losing the warmth. Or we recommend carrying the rosy quality of this shade through to accents and hardware, like with our Copper Wall Plate

Valspar

Color(s) of the Year

While the other brands highlighted here selected a single Color of the Year (though they did provide additional complementary shades), Valspar couldn’t give their top billing to just one. Within their selection of 12 hues, several aligned to the trends (and temperature) of the rest of this list. From these, the natural texture of the adorne® True Linen Wall Plate would look great with Valspar’s Ivory Brown 6006-1C and Villa Grey 6005-1B. While the navy-esque Bleu Noir would look sharp against both Cozy White 3008-10C andHolmes Cream 3004-10B. You can see the rest of Valspar’s palette of picks here, including the boldly elegant Everglade Deck 5011-3 and the playful Green Trellis 5006-3C, which both prove warm shades won’t have ALL the fun in 2023.
