It says its "smooth turning". Does that mean there are more than 10 or 12 audio levels?

It's smooth turning, meaning that there are not clicks as you go through the volume levels. It is a smooth analog knob.

Can you tell me the difference between the new volume controller Model WHLA-V1 and the previous/discontinued Model WHDM-V1? The product descriptions/specifications look identical.

Hi there! The WHLA model includes cover plates in white and light almond. The now discontinued WHDM version includes cover plates in white and almond (slightly darker shade, closer to ivory). Hope this helps!
