Why Choose a Pop-Out Outlet?
Looking to upgrade your space with a sleek, hidden power solution? The adorne® Pop-Out Outlet offers an innovative way to keep outlets out of sight until you need them – perfect for kitchens, home offices and high-traffic living areas.
This step-by-step guide walks you through how to install your pop-out outlet safely and successfully.
How does it work?
- Press once → outlet pops out
- Press again → outlet retracts for a clean, flush look
Before You Get Started
Before starting your installation, keep these key points in mind:
- Always turn off power at the breaker panel to avoid shock or electrocution
- Ensure your electrical box meets minimum depth requirements (generally 3–3.5 inches depending on box type)
- Use only with the Legrand adorne system
- Install in wall applications only – not in countertops or similar surfaces
If you’re unsure about any step, consult a qualified electrician.
Prep: Collect all Tools
- Screwdriver
- Wire stripper (if needed)
- Wire nuts (included)
- Pro Tip: Pre-fold wires into the wall box to make installation easier later.
Step 1: Remove the Existing Outlet
If you’re replacing an outlet, label all wires before disconnecting
You’ll typically be working with:
- Hot (black)
- Neutral (white)
- Ground (bare copper)
Step 2: Prepare the Wires
Trim and strip wires as needed using the guide on the back of the outlet. Ensure clean, properly sized wire ends for secure connections.
Step 3: Connect the Ground Wire
The outlet includes a 6-inch ground pigtail wire, which will need to be connected to:
- The existing ground wire
- The metal box (if applicable)
Secure with the provided wire nut and fold wires neatly into the back of the box.
⚠️ Proper grounding is critical for a safe installation.
Step 4: Wire and Mount the Outlet
- Insert wires into the correct terminals and tighten the screws firmly.
- Match wire sizes—do not mix different gauges in the same terminal without a pigtail.
- Carefully fold wires into the box, align the outlet frame with the wall and secure the device with screws.
Take care not to damage the wall surface during installation.
Step 5: Install the Wall Plate
Once the outlet is installed, snap the adorne Wall Plate onto the frame. Adjust the positioning using the built-in click stops for a flush fit.
Tip: To remove later, gently pry using a flat screwdriver.
Final Safety Check
Before restoring power:
✔ All wires securely connected
✔ Ground wire properly installed
✔ Device firmly mounted
Then turn the power back on and test functionality.
