Countertop Outlet
Delivering Convenient Power Right on the Counter
As electrical codes change but homeowner needs for power remain the same, outlets on kitchen islands and similar structures must adapt. Legrand’s latest Kitchen Countertop Outlet is the first upward facing outlet to pass the half-gallon spill test required for UL standards and to meet the National Electrical Code (NEC). Less obtrusive and smaller than a pop-up outlet, the surface-mount Kitchen Countertop Outlet provides power exactly where it's needed on kitchen islands and peninsulas, as well as on bars in restaurants and hospitality settings, in office lobbies, waiting rooms, cafeterias and more.
According to the latest 2023 NEC requirements, receptacles are no longer allowed in areas where the plug and cords may cause a safety hazard, like along the side of kitchen islands or peninsulas. By 2026, roughly 50% of states will adopt the standard, and to remain code-compliant with NEC 2023 406.5 (E), homebuilders and contractors will need to find an alternative. The solution is a countertop outlet that is UL-rated for spills while fitting a home’s form and function to accommodate code requirements and homeowners’ needs.
