How to Create a Custom Voice Activation with Alexa for Your Smart Light Switch
Using voice commands is a simple, hands-free way to manage the home’s lighting to suit the specific needs of any space. It starts with creating a custom command for light control with Alexa for Legrand’s Smart Lighting with Netatmo products. After a simple setup, smart light switches, dimmers and outlets can easily be controlled through Amazon Alexa and associated Echo devices, making your life easier and helping to save energy in the home.
Here are step-by-step instructions to use voice commands to control your smart light switches and outlets with Alexa.
Prerequisites: Before Getting Started with Voice Activation Setup
- Alexa app: Ensure you have the latest version of the Alexa app installed on your smartphone or tablet.
- Home+Control App: You will need to have the Home+Control app already set up and your Legrand devices configured within it.
- Legrand Account: You'll need the email address and password for your Legrand account.
- Internet Connection: A stable internet connection is necessary for both the Alexa app and your Legrand devices to communicate.
How to Set Up Voice Commands with Alexa
Setting up voice commands for your Smart Lighting with Netatmo products in Alexa is a two-step process.
1. Connect Your Accounts
To begin, you need to associate your Amazon Alexa and Netatmo accounts together using an Amazon Alexa “Skill.” This will automatically onboard all your Netatmo devices into your Amazon Alexa account for control.
- Navigate to “Skills and Games.”
- Type “Legrand” in the search field.
- Select “Legrand Netatmo Bticino” from the list.
- Select “Enable to Use.” You'll be required to log into your Netatmo account and allow Alexa access.
- Select “Next.” Alexa will now discover your devices.
- Choose which device to set up. Then you can choose where the device is located.
When you have finished adding your smart lighting devices to the Alexa app, you can then create a routine with custom commands to control your lighting.
2. Create Custom Voice Commands
- From the home screen select the “+” icon and choose “Routine.”
- Under When, select “Add an event.”
- Next select “Voice.”
- Enter the phrase you want to use to activate your routine.
- For example, “turn bedroom lights off.”
- Under Alexa Will, select “Add an action.”
- Select Smart Home – then select “Lights.”
- Choose the lights you want to control.
- Choose the power setting (on or off).
- Select “Save.”
Your voice activation has now been created and is ready to be used.
