How to Set up Matter Smart Lights with Alexa
Matter, the latest protocol to help standardize the way our smart devices and systems communicate with one another, offers an easy and convenient way to onboard smart lights, dimmers and outlets. Matter-enabled devices such as smart lights from Legrand are designed to work seamlessly with Amazon Alexa.
Connect your Matter Light Switch, Dimmer or Outlet to Alexa
For successful setup, ensure that you have a Matter-compatible Amazon Echo device. Your smartphone must also be connected to a 2.4 GHz network as 5 GHz networks are not supported by these devices.- Tap the “+” icon in the top right of the app screen.
- Select “Device” from the add list.
- Select the corresponding device type: Plug or Switch
- Select “Legrand” from the list of brands.
- Follow on-screen instructions and prompts.
- Scan the Matter QR code found inside the device box, on the Quick Start Guide or on the device itself.
- Wait for setup to be completed.
- Tap “Next” once the device is found and connected.
- Type in a name for your device.
- Identify the group it belongs to.
- To be sure your device is properly connected, go to “Devices” to test.
- Test the device by tapping the power icon and ensuring the device is powered on and off.
- The setup is complete, and you can now use your device.
If you have issues connecting a device to your network, try resetting the device to its factory settings following the installation instructions. If your device is a plug-in switch, hold down the button on the side of the device until blinks appear alternating between red and green – usually 10-15 seconds.
Adding a Matter-Enabled Device to a Second Smart Home Platform
To control your device from a second smart home application, a pairing code must be generated within the Alexa app.
Note: a compatible Matter-enabled hub from the second smart home application or platform will be required to complete this setup.
- Select your device from the device list.
- Tap the “Settings” icon in the top right corner.
- Select the “Other Assistants and Apps” option at the top of the screen.
- Select “Add another.”
- Copy the code provided and enter it in the app you want to use to control the device.
