Hello. The 5400TB is approved for surface mounting on walls, including concrete, in indoor dry locations only. For best results, the raceway can be painted with a latex-based primer and paint. Regarding caulking, this practice is not included in the UL-approved installation instructions; therefore, approval from the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) would be required. Thanks!

Hi, To paint a plastic raceway, it is not necessary to sand before painting. Just apply the primer and then paint using only latex-based paint. Even though primer is not a necessary element when painting plastic or steel raceways, better results are achieved when using it. Thanks,

Hello John, 5415 cannot be used to transition from 5400 to 400 raceway. However, 5474 is a fitting that would allow for this transition to 400 raceway. Unfortunately nonmetallic raceways are not recommended for use with fire alarm systems or smoke detectors. Thank you!

But I could use the 5415 fitting to transition to the series 400 Raceway and then a 2338A Fixture Box, right? Your 400/800/2300 raceway cut sheet specifically includes the note "For hanging smoke/fire alarms and other security devices with 3 1/2" (89mm) or 4 1/16" (103mm) mounting centers. Not for use with ceiling fans." I'm clarifying because in your answer you make a more general statement "nonmetallic raceways are not recommended for use with fire alarm systems or smoke detectors."
